Finally! After almost two (long) years, Spurs have a genuine home fixture as they take on Crystal Palace at the marvellous new stadium!

Of course, the significance of this opening game is massive and there will be a celebratory party atmosphere pervading the ground BUT just as important will be the three points at stake in the quest for Champions League football next season.

Since our defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, Arsenal have beaten Newcastle to go two points clear of us and Man Utd’s loss at Wolves keeps them level with us with an inferior goal difference.

Chelsea have a winnable home game against Brighton – who might have their mind on the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final. Thus, it is imperative that Spurs take maximum points – to open the new stadium with a bang and to also bring the wretched recent win-less run to an end.

It will not be easy but going by the 2nd half performance against Liverpool, Spurs have the tools to unlock Palace’s defence and start a new era with a strong win to carry with to the end of the season.

Possible line-up : Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen, Son, Kane.

New stadium update | Tottenham Hotspur:

No date for the opening of the new stadium but definitely all the fixtures in February have been confirmed by the club as being played at Wembley.

Again, I believe that it was totally unrealistic for the club to expect that the new stadium could have been finished in just one year. What the club should have done is set aside two seasons at Wembley instead of this ongoing PR disaster.

The pressure and expectations were all self-inflicted. As it stands, I do not know why the club is still stringing the fans along – surely, there’s no point in hoping to open this season. Sigh.
